The Miami Aquatic centre is a state of the art multi-million-dollar revitalization of an old aquatic centre which marked the inception of the Swiftbox for Skylucent Constructs.

Heat insulation of the indoor lap pool was critical thus Metecnospan PIR Panels was the choice of roofing material by the builder in which its maximum spanning capability under the high wind load meant that the builder could reduce substantial costs in steel structures that would otherwise need to be Aqua sealed to suit the category 4 corrosive environment. But natural light was also critical for such a large enclosed area especially if green star ratings and section J compliance are to be met.

When the steel structure was installed with purlins almost at 5m spans the builder faced a dilemma with no supplier off-the-shelf skylight solution that could span the distance yet achieve the thermal and corrosion resistance requirements. A retro fit solution would have meant additional costly bridging steel and potential condensation issues with substandard insulative values. It also would have meant modifications to the PIR panels that would compromise the BlueScope warranty. Retrofitting was labour intensive and costly to the builder.

In effort to keep to scheduling deadlines, the roofers proceeded to install the PIR panels leaving the skylight openings as the builder continued their attempts to source or engineer a solution.

The Swiftbox M-Span proved as a solution even in the most challenging scenario; an existing roof but with openings that have variance of width +-10mm. This meant various size units each marked with a dimension where constructed to suit the roof negating the need to remove any PIR panels.

Each Swiftbox was lifted and placed between each purlin on roof without the need of underside work avoiding the need to traverse through the pool.

Its base profile matched the PIR panel negating the need for modification and with butyl strip sealant the units thermal sealed in a simple drop-in resulting in a fast installation of 16 units within 3 hours and a cost saving to the builder for a superior ‘plug & play’ solution.

The units where then able to support a simple fix of multi-spaned profiled skylight sheets resulting in an engineer certified triple glazed skylight system with a seamless underside aesthetic finish.
